Many players opt to customize the startup command that is used by Pterodactyl. This may optimize the server performance, but it can also break your install. As such, manually changing the startup command cannot be done by customers at this time. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t change it at all. You can edit information like the server Jar, Minecraft version and build type. For other changes, simply open up a ticket, and ask to have it changed. You are responsible for the downtime caused by a faulty startup command though, so the downtime between changes is not covered by the SLA.
What is the Startup Command?
The startup command is a command that is run every time your server is started or rebooted. Most of the command controls Java’s behavior during startup, like telling it how much RAM it can use, and what JAR to run. It can also tweak the behavior of some server softwares, like Paper. Using something like Aikar’s Flags will give you a high level of control over your server, allowing you to properly optimize it.
Do I need to change my startup command?
No! The startup command that is included is sufficient enough to get your server up and running with zero additional setup. For most customers, the default startup command will be perfect.
